Things We Recommend

The Body Bugg!: www.bodybugg.com

Food Scale: We have the Weight Watchers version, but any work. It's important to be precise in measuring what you eat so that you are not underestimating calorie intake and sabotaging yourself by eating too much!

Weight Scale: Also measures body fat! http://www.amazon.com/Tanita-BC554-Ironman-InnerScan-Composition/dp/B0007ZH18M

Biggest Loser Calorie Counter book: http://www.amazon.com/Biggest-Loser-Calorie-Counter-Restaurants-As/dp/1594865957/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1240336925&sr=8-1

Biggest Loser Bootcamp DVD: LOVE THIS!! I have a hard time following workout videos because I'm very uncoordinated. But this video is very easy to do and gives a great quick (30 min) workout that had me instantly working up a sweat. http://www.nbcuniversalstore.com/index.php?v=nbc_the-biggest-loser_dvds&DCMP=KNC-TheBiggestLoser&HBX_OU=50&HBX_PK=biggest%20loser%20dvd&pa=SEM_NBCBiggestLoser_biggest%20loser%20dvd&esvtk_s=bgss

Crystal Light On the Go or NEW Welch's Drink Mix to Go: Favorite flavors - lemonade, pink or raspberry lemonade, sunrise orange, peach tea.

Joining a gym like the YMCA! The Y offers financial assistance, too, so you don't have to spend a lot of money to get healthy.

Eating your favorite foods, in moderation: Ours are spagetti, Chipotle, tacos, quesadillas, wraps, chocolate...we could go on!

Write Down your Food: We record our food daily in a log so we know where we are calorie wise and track our food intake.

Take Pictures!  We have found that photos help keep us motivated. We sometimes don't lose very much on the scale, but it helps to see that we are making progress anyway!

Weight GOALS!!

GOALS
Jay:   220 lbs   (110 lbs total to lose)

According to the bodybugg, if we continue at the rate we are losing weight, we will both reach our goal sometime around mid-October. Fast, huh?!  Makes you wonder why we haven't done this before? haha!

Kristi's Thoughts

On Monday, Jay and I were very sluggish and slow to get to the gym. Sunday is our day off working out so we always have a hard time on Monday. Well, we finally got there. On our way home we were remarking on how much better we felt. Our blood was pumping and getting all the stagnant, pooling blood moving so there are less chances for us developing serious diseases.

I read a study that said women who work out vigourously for 2 hours a day are 32% less likely to develop breast cancer. Just think of all the health problems that can go away with regular exercise and a healthy diet. In most cases, diabetes type 2 can be entirely cured with exercise.

When we are young, we think we'll live forever. Unfortunately, this can lead to bad habits forming including unhealthy eating and laziness. It's up to us to take full advantage of life and be healthy human beings.

Listen to me be all preachy! Well, honestly, it's more self directed than anything. :) TTFN

This week we decided to show comparative photos from the last month. We couldn't believe the difference! Unfortunately, in my original photos I look like a giant compared to the new photos, but it just makes me look like I've lost that much more weight. Drumroll, please.........!

PS - We are making our blog public since a lot of people are having trouble logging on.

Week 4 Journal Entry

A day in the life of Kristi and Jay's weight loss journey:

Starting with breakfast, we (and by we, I mean I, Kristi) prepare breakfast and lunch. I record our food in a log as I prepare it on a journal that stays on the kitchen counter until we enter it in the body bugg system. Jay typically has an egg mcmuffin type sandwich with 2 egg whites, fat free cheese and whole wheat english muffin. I have different things every morning, from cereal to wheat eggos but typically I have oatmeal, milk and splenda.

Jay usually eats a wrap with turkey and dijon mustard (NO MAYO!), light yogurt, light string cheese, and fruit. I have a sandwhich on Arnold Sandwhich thins (VERY tasty and good for hamburgers, too) or a frozen low fat burrito. I like to snack so I have a variety of things like 100 calorie popcorn, fruit, light lays potato chips and weight watchers chocolate. :)

We work and then usually meet at the gym around 5 pm and work out for 1.5 hours. We go home and eat dinner. We enjoy a variety of foods like tilapia and veggies, spagetti (very carefully measured!), salmon, quesadillas, grilled cheese and tomato soup. We only eat out about 1 time a week and it usually is Chipotle or Subway since these are the only really heathy choices available for a cheap budget.

We plug in our buggs for an hour to give our arms a break and upload our calories burned. We see where we are in our calories, fats, carbs and proteins and what we need to change for the next day in our diet and/or exercise to meet our goals.

To drink we usually have water with a Crystal Light mix in like pink lemonade or tea, but we have also discovered Welch's grape juice mix in and we really enjoy it.

We sleep with our body buggs on and start all over the next day.

THIS WEEK

We went to DC to see the cherry blossoms on Saturday. We walked from a parking lot far far away to the Jefferson memorial then to the Lincoln memorial. We walked at a good pace for about 2.5 hours. I told Jay I was sure we had walked for 3-6 miles since we usually do a 20 min. mile easily walking. We were tired especially from the drive, but we decided to do our normal workout for 30 minutes when we got home. We felt surprisingly refreshed after our workout since we had been in the car for about 6 hours that day.

Moral of this story: WALK! It does a body good.
